Basement Apartments

Finishing your basement in under certain circumstances can be very beneficial. It all depends on the reason. For instance, turning a basement into an apartment for a family member or a domestic employee are two of the top reasons other than making the basement a man/women cave or a recreation room for a growing family. Any of the above choices can actually save money in the long run for whom ever resides in the new apartment because of the general costs of living anywhere.

As it is, most basements are somewhat larger than a two or a one bedroom apartment or condominium. So, when it comes time to help, when living arrangements change for multi-generational families it makes sense to have a basement apartment. Furthermore, when and if you do decide to move forward with such a project, it is wise to understand the zoning laws and fire codes that govern homes and rental spaces.

The layout of an apartment would be the same for a basement apartment with a bedroom, kitchenette, a bathroom, storage space, (closet), a living room and a laundry room with a stacked washer and dryer combo unit as the ceiling height allows. If not and there is enough space a side by side washer and dryer set will work fine. We have a gallery with examples for ideas.
